April is Fair Housing Month

Fair Housing: It’s not an option, it’s the law.

RRHA and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) commemorate each April as a time to raise awareness about the provisions of the Fair Housing Act.

Part of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, the Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, and disability.

In Virginia, we also have state-specific protections for elderliness, military status, sexual orientation, gender identity, and source of funds (e.g., housing vouchers).

RRHA is committed to making reasonable accommodations for residents with disabilities. Fill out our Accessibility Needs Survey if you have a disability and would like to request accommodation.
