Important Changes to RRHA’s HCV Program for RRHA Waitlist Participants

Right now, RRHA is getting less money from the federal government to help pay for housing. Because of this, we need to make some changes to how the program works. Our main goal is to keep families in their homes and make sure help continues for as many people as possible.

Here is what is changing:

  • No new vouchers for now. We are not giving out new vouchers to families from the voucher waiting list.
  • Voucher payment amounts will stay the same when you move. If you move to a new place, RRHA will pay the same amount it does now unless an increase is needed for a medical reason or disability.
  • Rent will be split if you move in the middle of the month. If you move into a new home during a month when RRHA already paid your old landlord, the payment will be split between both landlords.

RRHA may have to take other cost-saving actions that are not in the above list. If any more changes need to be made, we will tell you as early and clearly as possible.

What you need to do to keep getting rental assistance:

  • Finish your yearly or update recertifications on time.
  • Talk with your RRHA caseworker if anything changes.
  • Keep your contact info, especially your email, updated in the RRHA portal.
  • Check your email and RRHA portal often.
  • Make sure you or another adult are home and prepared for RRHA scheduled inspections (we use HUD’s NSPIRE program rules).

We know these changes may be confusing or stressful. Please know we want to make sure you understand these changes. If you have any questions, please call our Customer Call Center at (804) 780-4200 or email us at HCVP.WaitingList@rrha.com.

We value you as a part of the RRHA HCV Program and it matters to us that you continue to get the housing assistance you and your family need.

Sincerely,

Steven B. Nesmith
