RRHA DISCUSSES NEW “GOOD 4 GILPIN” PROPOSAL TO REDEVELOP GILPIN USING ITS NONPROFIT
Thurs. Aug. 28 @ 5:30p and Sat. Sept. 6, 2025 @ 1p
WHO: Residents of Gilpin Court, Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority’s (RRHA) largest public housing community along with members of the Richmond Tenant Organization, Facilitator Dr. Marvin Roane, President of the East End Renaissance Council, and RRHA’s Chief Executive Officer Steven Nesmith.
WHAT: Dr. Marvin Roane will facilitate a respectful discussion to bring a better understanding to Gilpin residents and other attendees about the future of the Gilpin community and the proposal to use RRHA’s non-profit 501c3 organization, the Richmond Development Corporation (RDC) in the redevelopment of the Gilpin Court community.
After a brief presentation, there will be a question-and-answer period to address questions, first and foremost, from Gilpin residents.
WHERE: Greater Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 913 North 1st Street, Richmond VA 23219.
WHEN: Thursday, August 28 from 5:30p – 7:30p and Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
WHY: It is estimated that the entire redevelopment of Gilpin Court will cost more than $400 million. There is not enough funding at the local, state or federal level, meaning other funding must be secured. RRHA is proposing to use its nonprofit subsidiary, the RDC, which is controlled by RRHA, to go after unrestricted dollars to assist in redevelopment and support workforce programs, maintenance repairs and upkeep and resident-centered self-sufficiency programs.
