RRHA Announces 2026 Scholarship Opportunities ForPublic Housing Students

RICHMOND, VA— The Resident Services Division of the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA), in partnership with regional housing partners and national organizations, is proud to announce its 2026 Scholarship Application Season. Multiple scholarship opportunities are now available for graduating seniors residing in RRHA public housing and Housing Choice Voucher communities.

Each year, RRHA reaffirms its commitment to educational advancement by connecting students to critical financial resources that help make higher education more accessible and affordable.

“At RRHA, we believe talent is everywhere—even when opportunity does not present itself,” said Steven Nesmith, RRHA Chief Executive Officer. “Many of our students are navigating the college journey as first-generation scholars. They are ambitious, resilient and ready. Our role is to remove barriers, open doors and ensure they have the financial support and guidance to pursue their dreams with confidence.”

RRHA’s Resident Services team works directly with students throughout the scholarship process—sharing opportunities, assisting with applications and helping families understand key deadlines and requirements.

“Most of our graduates are first generation college-bound students, seeking to change the trajectory, not just of their lives, but the lives of their family,” said Wanda Daniel, RRHA Resident Services Program Manager and Scholarship Coordinator. “In some instances, our graduates are underestimated based on their address. But year after year through high school and into their college years, many distinguish themselves as Valedictorians, Prom Kings and Queens and college’s Dean list achievers, surprising those who doubted them because of where they live.”

Application windows for several scholarships are now open, and early submission is strongly encouraged. Students are urged to connect with RRHA’s Resident Services Division as soon as possible to explore eligibility requirements and begin the application process.

Through education, mentorship and meaningful partnerships, RRHA continues to invest in the next generation of leaders—empowering residents to achieve academic success and long-term self-sufficiency.
