Volunteers meet Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Lombardy Management Office
RICHMOND VA –The Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA) has chosen one of its senior sites at 700 South Lombardy Street to celebrate Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22, 2026. RRHA employees, contractors, stakeholders and other volunteers will join in a collective effort to beautify and enhance the building’s exterior environment.
“Lombardy Senior Apartments is a meaningful choice for our Earth Day initiative, bringing together volunteers, partners, and our team to create a more welcoming and vibrant environment for our seniors,” said RRHA CEO Steven Nesmith.
“By enhancing this community space, we’re not only investing in its appearance, but also in the well-being of the residents who call it home. This effort reflects our commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and improving quality of life across Richmond.”
This year marks the 56th anniversary of Earth Day, an important reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve the environment for future generations. The theme of this year’s Earth Day event is “Our Power, Our Planet” and focuses on accelerating the transition to clean energy, community mobilization, and individual action.
Work will focus primarily on the exterior of the Lombardy site, to include mulching, planting flowers and trees throughout to help combat pollution and improve air quality, ensuring a cleaner and more vibrant environment for residents. Details of the event are:

· Times: Group #1: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Noon) | Group #2: 12 p.m. (Noon) – 3 p.m.
Volunteers are asked to arrive 15 mins PRIOR to the start of their shift
· Location: 700 South Lombardy Street, Richmond, VA 23220 (meeting place – Lombardy Management Office)
Volunteers will be provided gloves, trash bags, grabbers, and other necessary supplies for clean-up efforts. These items have been donated by several RRHA partners and vendors. These vendors include The Grounds Guys; Lawn Beauticians of Hopewell; and Lowe’s (White Oak mall location). Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes, suitable for outdoor activities.
