Building community by working together.

Richmond, VA – Community members are invited to join a hands-on workshop to plan the future for Jackson Ward. The Community Planning Workshop is from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday August 18, 2022 at Third Street Bethel AME (614 N 3rd Street). This meeting is a part of comprehensive community engagement plan to ultimately create a community informed-vision for the future of the neighborhood. Learn more about the workshop here:

The Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA), the City of Richmond, and the Richmond City Health District are more than six months into the two-year process to create a community-driven plan to redevelop Gilpin Court as well as planning for the neighborhood, housing, and other demonstrated needs of the Jackson Ward community.

Late in 2021, RRHA was awarded a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) planning grant. The grant is a part of the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative, which helps local leaders craft comprehensive, homegrown plans to revitalize and transform neighborhoods across the country. HUD’s Choice Neighborhoods Initiative promotes a comprehensive approach to transforming neighborhoods struggling to address the interconnected challenges of distressed housing, inadequate schools, poor health, high crime, and lack of capital.
