RRHA to Celebrate First Housing Choice Voucher Participant to Graduate From “Come Home” Homeownership Initiative

Richmond, VA — The Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA) will host a press conference tomorrow to celebrate a major milestone in its mission to expand opportunity and economic mobility for residents. For the first time, a participant in RRHA’s Housing Choice Voucher program has successfully completed the agency’s Come Home Homeownership Initiative and purchased a new home.

This achievement represents a powerful example of RRHA’s commitment to helping families move toward greater self-sufficiency—whether through traditional rental housing, expanded housing choices, or the path to homeownership and wealth building.

RRHA Chief Executive Officer Steven Nesmith will recognize the new homeowner during the press conference and will present a special acknowledgment celebrating this important accomplishment.

“This moment demonstrates what is possible when we invest in our residents and create pathways to opportunity,” said Nesmith. “Homeownership is one of the most important tools families have to build stability and generational wealth, and we are proud to support residents as they take that step.”

The celebration also signals what RRHA hopes will be the first of many similar milestones. In fact, another RRHA resident—currently living in one of the agency’s senior communities—is also preparing to close on a home in the coming weeks, marking yet another exciting step forward that will be celebrated soon.
