Virginia Rent Relief Assistance Ends May 15

~Special sessions for RRHA residents~

RICHMOND, VA—The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development’s (DHCD) Rent Relief Program (RRP) is closing its application portal to new applications at 11:59 p.m., May 15. 2022. For public housing residents in communities managed by the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA), this program has paid out more than two million dollars in back rent of residents.

“We knew at some point that rent relief funding would come to an end. Now that we have the end date, RRHA wants to ensure that those families who are still in need of rent relief and have not yet completed their application, do so by the deadline,” said RRHA Interim CEO, Sheila Hill Christian.   “It is our goal to get everyone signed up while we still can. We do not want our relationship with our residents to end with lease enforcement and we are working diligently to avoid that outcome.”

RRHA property management staff are working diligently to ensure that the nearly 700 applications that were put in the pipeline by RRHA are completed by residents before the deadline.

To ensure that each resident has an opportunity to take advantage of this resource before the deadline, letters were mailed to each RRHA family on Friday, April 29, 2022, and delivered to each resident, door to door on Monday, May 2, 2022.

RRHA will be holding special sessions at each property management office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. RRHA families are encouraged to stop by to receive assistance applying for rent relief or apply for a repayment agreement for the full amount of rent owed.  See dates and communities in chart below.
