Redeveloping and revitalizing RVA, one neighborhood-in-need at a time.
RRHA is, in part, a redevelopment agency. In addition to offering public housing, RRHA is a driving force behind the city’s efforts to revitalize Richmond neighborhoods and business districts. RRHA, through its partnerships, has built more than 3,000 new housing units and rehabilitated 4,400 deteriorated structures in more than 30 conservation and redevelopment areas throughout the city. These units are available to individuals and families who are able to maintain self-sufficiency and lease an affordable, market-rate home.
RRHA is building vibrant communities through:
- Managing redevelopment/conservation areas, including both residential to commercial properties;
- Providing homeownership opportunities through partnerships with private developers;
- Working with neighborhood residents to become more self-sufficient; and,
- Revitalizing areas into successful, economically mixed-income, mixed-use , sustainable, communities.
Our Real Estate and Community Development Department heads our redevelopment efforts in partnership with various city programs (conservation, redevelopment, rehabilitation, homeownership), the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the former HOPE VI program, or the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) Revitalization Program.
